Our Journey to Becoming Carbon Neutral

Our Journey to Becoming Carbon Neutral

Like many responsibly-minded companies, we want to minimise our negative impact on the planet. One way to do this is by understanding and reducing, the carbon emissions produced through our roasting process and other areas associated with running our business.

We accept that we generate carbon emissions in all aspects of our operations, from the obvious ones, such as roasting the coffee and heating the roastery, but also through the manufacturing of our packaging and boxes; shipping coffee to cafes and shops around the UK, and through the commuting of our team as they travel to work and home again. Our goal is to understand each of these emission-producing areas, to measure the amount of carbon generated by each one, and then to explore ways that we can reduce or remove those emissions. We also accept that, for now, no one can completely remove all of the emissions produced and, therefore, we will need to support effective initiatives that aim to mitigate, or offset, the carbon that we generate.

There are some simple things that we have already done, to reduce our emissions. We have draught-proofed our doors and windows at the roastery, and installed destratification fans to recirculate risen heat back in to work spaces. We have switched all of our work vehicles to full electric or hybrid, and we encourage our team to reduce how much they travel on business. We also encourage our team to travel to work by bus or bike or by walking, where practical (most of our team members live within a few kilometres of the roastery).

During 2022, we aim to create a plan to make year on year reductions to our carbon footprint, and to invest in meaningful, accredited carbon offset projects to mitigate the carbon that we cannot reduce or remove.
