We have redesigned our new retail bags with sustainability in mind. Not only are they now made of a home compostable material but the unique shape uses less material overall (The valve on the bag is a little thicker and so they are industrially compostable, so you can remove them, or they will compost if you give them a little longer time). The new shape also helps getting your spoon or scoop in easily!
In order to reduce single use plastic we have also got rid of the bag's built in resealing strip. These often broke and ultimately just went in the bin with the rest of the bag.
That still leaves the problem of resealing the bag to maintain freshness. We looked at various options, including wooden ones, but the thing that worked the best was the type of plastic clip you may have on your peas in the freezer. We know its a compromise going back to plastic but it does now mean that it can be used multiple times on your coffee bags (or even on your peas!).
